Irradiation Effect on the Change and Activity of Bone Formation around IMZ Implant after Implantation in Rabbit Tibia

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to observe morphologically the effect of low irradiation dosage on the early bone formation around IMZ implant after implantation, and to examine qualitatilvely the deposition of calcium aud phosphorous in rabbit tibia. In 1, 2, 4, 8 weeks after irradiation, HA coated IMZ implants associated with bone tissue were fixed with 10% neutral formalin, dehydrated, and embedded with Spurr low viscosity. After the specimen was cut
by 5oo§¬ with slow diamond wheel saw, these were grinded up to 100§¬ with grinder, examined with light microscope and polararizing microscope, and were detected for qvalitative calcium and phosphorus by EPMA(Electron probe microne analysis) was used. The obtained results were as follows.
1. In toluidin blue staining of control group, from 1 to 2 weeks trabecular bone from compact bone was associated with new bone around implant. On 4 weeks trabecular bone partially surrounded implant and ran into inner side. On 8 weeks trabecular bone with irregular arrangement of osteocytes went toward central portion. In polanizing microscopic features, newly formed bone(blue) ajacent to implant on 2 week progressed into calcified bone(deep yellow) on 4 weeks.
2. In toluidin blue staining of 1 and 2 week of experimental group, bone formaion was similar to that of control group, On 4 weeks a increased trabecular bone in inner side was seen. On 8 weeks trabecular bone completety surrounded implant and ran into central portion. In polarizing microscopic features, calcified bone formation attached to the surface of implant was more increased than that of 4 weeks in control group.
3. In EPMA study, both of them showed that phosphorous deposition level in attached new bone was comparatively higher than calcium deposition level, while reverse in hole. In attached bone of hole, calcium deposition level was similar¡¤ to phosphorous in control group from 4 to 8 weeks.
4. In EPMA study, in attached new bone calcium deposition level was continously increased from 1 to 8 weeks, while phosphorous deposition of 4 weeks was similar to that of 8 weeks. But very low calcium deposition in adjacent trabecular bone was still seen.
From above results, in 8 weeks of experimentat group there was not completely filled and not calcified with bone in hole. but new bone was formed around HA coated implant. After 4 weeks phosphorous deposition was not increased, while there was a incereased calcium deposition. It was concluded that oral used irradiation might stimulate bone formation around HA coated IMZ implant.
